The Department Energy and Environmental Stewardship Awards recognize individual employees, teams, and contractors of the Department, as well as Department partners who have attained exceptional energy and/or environmental achievements within their program, career field, or organization.
All Department of Commerce employees are eligible. Nominations may be submitted as an individual or a group; however, the nomination must be submitted by a federal employee. The award is given annually.
Nominees can compete for any of the 13 award categories. All nominations are automatically entered to additionally compete in the Closing the Circle award, the GreenGov award, and the Department of Energy Management award. Award winners are selected by the Environmental Stewardship Award Selection Committee, then forwarded to the Sustainability Officer for final decision. The committee uses common award criteria that considers the nomination in light of its benefit to the Department, its natural and cultural resources, and the public.
The awards ceremony and reception will tentatively be scheduled concurrent with Earth Day during a celebration at Department headquarters in Washington, D.C. Recognition includes an award presented by a high-level Departmental official. All nominees, nominators, and supporters are invited to attend.
Office of Sustainable Energy and Environmental Programs will facilitate the ceremony and provide information to all award recipients and Operating Unit coordinators.
Offices outside the DC area are responsible for travel costs for their award recipients to attend the ceremony.
