How to Request a Security Clearance if you are a federal employee

1.         Determine that your job requires access to National Security Information (NSI). Your supervisor normally determines this action.

2.         Contact your Human Resources Office (HRO) to ensure the Position Sensitivity Code reflects the correct coding for access to NSI.

3.         The HRO should be able to assist you by inviting you into Eqip, the Office of Personnel Management secure website.  Once you have completed the Eqip session by validating your answers, you will be prompted to print off the last three pages of the investigative document.

You will then need to be finger printed.  We offer this service to you for free in our office.  If you can’t make it to our location, any police agency will finger print you for a small fee.

4.         Once the HR office provides the Office of Security with all of the necessary forms, to include your resume and the OF 306, we will submit the forms to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), where the investigative process takes place.

5.         Once the investigative process has been completed, the Office of Security will review the package and notify you in writing that you have been granted a security clearance
