Per diem rates are the amounts which you are allowed to spend for lodging and meals and incidentals (M&IE) while on official travel. Per diem is not authorized for local travel (within 50 miles of duty location). CONUS (continental US) location rates are established and maintained by the General Services Administration (GSA). CONUS rates are usually updated once a year.

OCONUS (outside continental US) location rates are established and maintained by the US Department of State and are generally updated monthly.
