Services for Those With Disabilities

The Office of Administrative Services (OAS) provides accessible services throughout the Herbert C. Hoover Building (HCHB for those with disabilities). Here are the current accessible locations in place at this time.

Entrances

Currently, the HCHB has three (3) accessible entrances equipped with automatic door openers:

14^th Street Aquarium Entrance

14^th Street & Pennsylvania Avenue Entrance

15^th Street & Constitution Avenue Entrance

A temporary emergency exit ramp is located at the courtyard exit of the 2^nd corridor. This entrance is not equipped with an automatic door opener and will be reassessed during the HCHB modernization.

Elevators

The HCHB is equipped with twenty-six (26) passenger elevators. An elevator is located at each of the identified accessible entrances for use by those with disabilities.

Emergency Egress

Emergency evacuation chairs will be installed in strategic places throughout the HCHB in coordination with the HCHB Occupant Emergency Plan.

Facilities

The HCHB has seventeen (17) fully and seventeen (17) partially accessible restrooms. Each fully accessible restroom is equipped with automatic door openers, modified stalls, and modified sinks. Partially accessible restrooms are equipped with one or more of these modifications.

Office Door Modifications

The HCHB currently has thirty-eight (38) office doors equipped with automatic door openers. Most office doors located within the building can be modified for this service at the request of a specific office. This request must be made by submitting a completed CD-410 to the Office of Space and Building Management in room 1320.

Drinking Fountains

Each floor of the HCHB has a minimum of two accessible drinking fountains, with a total of seventeen (17).

Telephones

TTY telephones to serve the deaf community have been installed in several locations throughout the building.
