About the Office of the CFO/ASA
The Office of the Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Secretary for Administration (CFO/ASA) is part of the Commerce Department's Office of the Secretary.
- Mission
Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Secretary for Administration (CFO/ASA), the Office oversees the Commerce Department's financial resources, human resources and facilities. It establishes and monitors implementation of Departmental policies and procedures for administrative functions affecting program operations in Commerce's thirteen operating units.
These administrative functions include: budget and financial management, strategic planning and performance management, human resources management and civil rights, employee safety and health, procurement and small business utilization, grants management, travel and transportation of household goods, real property and facilities management, and security.
The Office of the CFO/ASA is also responsible for coordinating implementation of government-wide and Departmental management reforms. These include the five crosscutting initiatives established in the President's Management Agenda: improving financial management; strategic management of human capital; competitive sourcing; budget and performance integration; and, in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Information Officer, expanding electronic government.
The Office is integrally involved in carrying out a Departmental safety initiative to ensure a safe and secure work environment for Commerce employees and continuity of operations in the event of an emergency.
The Office of the CFO/ASA also manages the Department's headquarters offices located in the Herbert C. Hoover Building in Washington, DC. It provides Hoover Building tenants, either directly or through private sector contractors, with mail services, conference and audiovisual support, printing and graphics, space planning, janitorial services, landscaping, and library services.
The CFO/ASA's authority is delegated through Department Organization Order 10-5, Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Secretary for Administration.
